ENGLISH 12

Get me your "war quote" writing ASAP if you havent yet!!

We worked on writing cover letters today!!! We went over strategies for writing them, and you were asked to do one to hand in by the end of class.

Remember, you can only get half credit if you hand in work late!

COLLEGE ENGLISH

1. Silent Reading (is back!)
2. Lead/Intro paragraphs
-read some good ones from last time
-write to another prompt I give about what is most important to you: Success, Time, Power, Relationships....write a good intro with a good backstory
-Instead of handing this in, these were all read aloud (and they were awesome, btw!!!) as a lead in to our.......
3. Public Speaking
-begin unit....we will continue on Monday!!

ORANGE DAY

ENGLISH 12

Today we viewed the episode "The Breaking Point" from BAND OF BROTHERS and you were asked to respond to one of the quotes about war listed on the sheet I gave you...

COLLEGE ENGLISH

1. We will return to silent reading starting next class!
2. Briefly went over the "final stretch" progression of material we will cover towards the end of the year: Leads....public speaking....methods of rhetoric...informational writing...claim, data, warrant argumentative writing....final....etc!
3. Leads
-talked about effective leads in writing formal papers
-took notes on "backstory" and discussed its role in lead paragraphs
-read several examples from the two handouts I gave you....
-I asked you to write the "intro paragraph" to the "what would you tell the teachers of WHS to do" prompt...I collected this prompt to see how you were understanding today's lesson....

Today we viewed a History Channel documentary on the Battle of the Bulge.....

We viewed and talked about a power point presentation on military awards and heroism as it pertains to the book THE LONGEST WINTER

COLLEGE ENGLISH

Today we worked on finishing the MONTE CRISTO film (we have about 20 minutes left and will finish after vacation!)

Also, during class, you were to work on the following as your "vocab test:"

USING/INCLUDING AT LEAST FIVE OF THIS WEEK'S VOCAB WORDS, PLEASE WRITE A REACTION PIECE TO THE FILM VERSION OF MONTE CRISTO. BY 'REACTION,' I MEAN YOUR THOUGHTS, OPINIONS, AND FEELINGS TOWARDS THE BOOK. YOU MAY FOCUS ON A CHARACTER, THE SETTING, WHAT SURPRISES YOU, ETC. THIS IS AS MUCH OF A 'MONTE CRISTO' GRADE AS IT IS A VOCAB TEST GRADE. YOU CAN OF COURSE USE YOUR VOCABULARY NOTES FOR THIS. AIM FOR ONE FULL PAGE AND DEFINITELY UNDERLINE YOUR VOCAB WORDS....AND BE SURE TO USE THEM CORRECTLY!!!

Touch base, as I havent been here in over a month!

Do new vocab from Unit 7 of "Roots" workbook, and then put each new vocab word into its own sentence....this was handed in for a grade...

We will continue with reading chapter 7 of "Winter" on Wednesday

COLLEGE ENGLISH

It is great to be back!!!

As far as Monte Cristo, remember:
-Quarter 3 is in the books....
-Everyone starts Q4 with an A for participation (I talked to Mr Record)
-We are done with the "reading" of Monte Cristo, because after vacation we are starting something completely new!
