-pick ONE of the items of the collecting activity...elaborate on it...write at least a page on this....use as much authentic voice as possible.....we will share these

-write about yourself using the vocab list...pick 12 of the words...how do you measure up against them? Are you like or unlike them?? Why??
-begin 'mental scavenger hunt' thing....what are SEVEN things you want to learn more about?
-we will finish on Monday....your vocab quiz will be next WEDNESDAY!!

-per the collecting activity: ZOOM IN on one of the categories/items and EXPAND ON IT in about 3/4 to a page of writing....use as much voice as possible!! FOR EXAMPLE...if under the THINGS YOU DISLIKE category you put CHEESE PIZZA, write about WHY!!! BE YOU!! Be genuine! Use voice
-write to the prompt: One thing that really annoys me is......(DO NOT put name on it...I will collect it....more to come on Monday!)

1. "The Pit and the Pendulum"
-go over story....discuss sensory images and unreliable narrator....
2. "The Black Cat"
-intro story and begin reading in class
-please finish the story at home and please write down some quotes/details/reasons why you can tell the narrator is crazy, delusional, and UNRELIABLE as a narrator....
3. Short Story Paper
-NOTE: On Friday, I will give you guys time in class to be working on your papers....I will be talking to you and conferencing with you, etc....your paper is due AT END OF CLASS, so use your time wisely....it might be a good idea to come in to class with some stuff already written, etc!

HONORS/DUAL ENROLLMENT

-pass back papers--commented upon, but not graded...
-utilize PUSH, PRAISE, PONDER strategy with partners
-utilize "StarSystem" on your own

-review of basics--topic sentences, sentence structure, supporting details, enumerative strategy, etc
-worksheets on identifying topic sentences and supporting details
-exercise 19 and 20 sheets
2. Vocabulary
-we got new words last time, and we will have a quiz on THURSDAY
-utilizing paragraph writing strategy, pick at least five words and find commonalities and create a paragraph with a sharp topic sentence....use the vocab words correctly in the writing of your paragraph...

2. Assign paper for "short story unit" test.....you can choose from one of the two prompts I gave you
a. Describe a common literary device two stories share
                             or
b. Describe an incident where a seemingly positive quality--like loyalty, love, innocence, or pride--can be a BAD thing that negatively affects a character's life
3. We spent some time brainstorming characters from our short stories and isolating their positive qualities....
4. Begin the college essay/Personal Narrative writing unit....yeay!

2. Assign paper (no due date was given yet, as we will continue to talk about it on Wednesday). If you were not here to get the paper assignment, you need to SEE ME asap OR copy down the assignment (there were several choices) from a trusted classmate!!!
3. Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum"
-introduce and begin reading in class
-finish the story for next time
-please write down 2 examples for each of the 5 sensory images (two examples of Poe using 'touch' details, two examples of Poe using 'hearing' details, etc)
