SUB PLANS FOR FRIDAY APRIL 7

SUB PLANS: JARED GOLDSMITH
FRIDAY, APRIL 7 2017

I have told all my classes ahead of time that I will be out today, and they have been told of the “plan” as well. Thanks!

BLOCK 1: English 12. A small, great class. They are reading the book THE LONGEST WINTER, which is stacked to the left of my desk. They are to read chapter 9 and do the “quiz” that goes along with it. Please tell them this will only count as an in-class quiz. Please do not let them take the books home with them—rather, have them stack them back on the counter at the end of class. Please tell them I will take the quizzes from them next Tuesday.

BLOCK 2: Study Hall. This is in the commons. A great group of kids. Several kids may see you at the beginning of class regarding going to the library to get a laptop. This is fine. They should go and come right back to the commons with their laptop. Please only allow one student at a time to leave for the bathroom, locker, etc.

LUNCH (your lunch)

BLOCK 3: Creative Writing. This class was told ahead of time that Friday was to be “Inspiration Time.” Inspiration Time is basically time I give them in creative writing to “explore creative opportunities” around them. This is not to be used as a “study hall,” but, rather, a time for the students to work on their writing or, perhaps, their reading. Encourage kids to do things that promote and enhance their creativity. They are very familiar with what “Inspiration Time” is so there should be no problem. You could remind kids to work on their “mood museum” projects as well.

BLOCK 4: College Prep English 12. A great group of kids with a bad case of senioritis...haha.They are reading the book HEROES, which is stacked on the counter beside my desk. Please instruct them to read pages 98-118 of the book. Don't let them take the books home, as I need them for another class. Thanks! There is also a writing prompt I would like them to do:

As Francis falls asleep at night he 'recites the names of the guys in his platoon." Men in war often bond closely with members of their groups as they face danger together. Have you ever felt such an emotional link to other people as you faced something difficult together? On a sports team? In the cast of a play? Etc. Describe how it felt in AT LEAST one full page....

Please have them do this prompt and have them pass it in to me on Tuesday. ALSO, PLEASE remind the class that they have vocab test on Tuesday. .Again, this is a great group of kids....the biggest thing with them is to only let ONE AT A TIME out for bathroom, locker, etc. Thanks!

Please have ALL students make sure laptops are plugged in when they are done

Please see Ms Pinkham or Mrs McCowan (diagonally across the hall) should you have any questions. I have posted these exact lesson plans on my class web site (www.goldsmithenglish.blogspot.com) if there are any questions by the students, etc. Thanks again!
