Today we continued working on our personal narratives by workshopping some "voice" writing....the page of "writing with voice" was due today, and we paired up to talk about using specific action verbs, terms, etc...we shared our stuff...

Today we got a new list of vocabulary words for a test that will be next THURSDAY!!!!!!!!

Please keep in mind that I will not be in on Friday....I will post the sub lesson plan on the blog AND the sub will tell you what is going on! You will be reading in BEOWULF!

We went over section 1 of BEOWULF together, and I looked for you to share the information you hopefully took down in your notes about arrogance, religion, and evilness....

Today we worked together on a new vocabulary list (cultural literacy) for a test that will be next WEDNESDAY....

We continued with our personal narrative writing by talking about "voice," and filling out the "personal scavenger hunt" paper.....for next time, I would like you to come to class with a short piece of writing...here is the assignment:

PICK ONE (OR A FEW) ITEMS THAT YOU LISTED ON YOUR 'COLLECTING ACTIVITY' AND WRITE AT LEAST 1/2 PAGE ON THEM; EXPAND UPON WHAT YOU WROTE, AND ADD VOICE AND PERSONALITY TO YOUR WRITING

 We WILL be sharing this with one other person as part of a revision exercise. Thanks!

Today in class we read the first section of "Beowulf"--"The battle with Grendel"...we took notes on finding quotes in the section for the following three categories
 a. the arrogance of Beowulf
 b. the references to Christianity
 c. the evilness of Grendel

Today in class we dove into our work with PersonalNarratives/College Essays....

We played a few rounds of "Kite or Clothesline"

I wrote the rubric for the essay on the board, and you were instructed to write down the specifics of how you will be graded

I gave a two sided handout with information on WHAT should go into this essay....and there were several sample prompts...
