BLACK DAY

ENGLISH 12

Today we finished the BAND OF BROTHERS episode featuring "Bastogne...." and we will continue with the reading on Monday....

COLLEGE PREP 12

Today we got a new list of Greek and Latin root words....these are words you can find in chapter 2 of the vocab workbooks.....the quiz will be next Friday, and we will do some more review on next Wednesday...

We did not continue with HEROES reading today, but we will on Monday, when we will read and write a response....

-do and go over reading "887" questions and discuss why the answers were what they were...
-go over rubric for the feature story that is due Wednesday....remember to follow the rubric that is given to you on the bottom of the "Presenting Information" handout I gave you way-back-when...pay special attention to your introduction and make it interesting (think Q.A.Q.S.)

Today we read pages 77-91 of TheLongestWinter and we worked on a timeline showing acts of heroism, contributions of characters other than Bouck, and important historical events...

Mr Record came in and shared his expertise with us about winter survival training in the army....thanks Mr Record!!

A reminder that the vocabulary test is next TUESDAY

Today we read in HEROES up through page 51and you were to write about which conflict you find to be the most prevalent in the story so far: man vs man, self, or nature....this was done in class and collected as a participation grade!

-go over types/styles of feature stories listed on the handout I gave you
-go over format of paragraphs for SUBTOPIC in writing a feature story
-go around room and share what you reported on today, and then tell what sort of "style" of feature story it fits
-collect the precis and questions that were due today!
-begin "887" questions, etc....PLEASE BRING THESE NEXT TIME as we will go over them then
-view and discuss other examples of feature stories

-we will continue on Monday....please note that your own feature story will be due next WEDNESDAY

Today we read the rest of chapter 5 and filled out the rest of the study guide questions (9-12)

We went over the questions and the reading....

Then, to put it in perspective, we viewed part of a History Channel documentary on The Battle Of The Bulge...

Today we worked with the vocabulary books doing Exercises 1, 2, 3, and 4 starting on page 8...these were done in class and collected as a participation grade....

The test will be next TUESDAY, not this Friday....

We did not read any of HEROES today.....

COLLEGE ENGLISH

Today we continued our discussion of ethos, pathos, and logos, and how it is used to make informational writing more effective ....we went over the "Football Island" report that we watched last time, and discussed how these rhetorical devices were used....

We continued with the "Black Dolphin" documentary, taking notes on how ethos, pathos, and logos are used....also, we took note of the subtopics of the documentary

Your assignment for next class is to find your own example of a "feature story" and do two things with it. First of all, write a precis of it. Secondly, answer the four questions that exist on the original "handout" I gave you for the Presenting Information unit (see me if you are confused!)
