ORANGE DAY
ENGLISH 12
1. A reminder that your vocabulary test will be on FRIDAY!!! If you make flashcards or put your words in sentences and show me before the test, you can earn bonus points on the test!
2. "The Lottery"
a. we read the ending of the story together
b. we worked on finishing the questions on the sheet
c. we discussed additional notes--if yours are incomplete, see me or Mrs LeClair
d. this was turned in at the end of class to be counted as a grade!

a. we took notes on the background "en medias reys" of the story so that it would be easier to understand
b. we began reading the first couple of pages together
c. for next time, please finish reading THE BATTLE WITH GRENDEL
d. please take notes on HOW THE FIGHT GOES, REFERENCES TO GOD, and SIGNS OF BEOWULF'S ARROGANCE
e. There very well may be a short quiz on Friday!

ORANGE DAY
ENGLISH 12
Today in class we started by taking the FUTURES DAY survey for our college field trips...
We took some notes on our first short story "The Lottery" and a study guide was passed out....
We began reading the first few pages of the story and then you were given the last ten minutes or so to read on your own...some of you didnt finish and we will continue next time...
Take good notes or get them if you were absent, since at the end of this unit we will have an OPEN NOTE test!!!!
Be careful to take the time to study the vocabulary words, since we will have this test later this week!

We took notes on "Beowulf" and the history of how it came to be....if you were not here, make sure to get the notes you missed!!!!

ENGLISH 12
Today we went over the vocabulary words for the quiz you will have next week.....we put them in sentences and went over them...your willingness to share counted as a participation grade...
We talked about Connotation and Denotation and the differences between the two....we worked on a worksheet which focused on some similarities and differences between words....
COLLEGE ENGLISH

-today we began talking about the poem we will be reading by exploring some history of the Anglo Saxons...
-read pages 1-8 in the brown textbook about the history of these people...
-find a unifying idea/topic sentence that ties an aspect of the reading together...write at least 1/2 of a page response focused around this topic or idea....note that this is NOT a summary on all of it....

We started by going over the "purple test" in the grammar-writing test booklet...these tests were handed back to you so you could correct any that you got incorrect...then we went over the vocabulary that you were asked to look up for today....the test for these words will be on this coming MONDAY....please see me if you have any questions....

We did a quick followup to the guidance presentation from last time...
We got our first vocabulary word list today! Your job in class was to copy the words down and look up the definitions for all the words...we will go over them next time! Here are the words:

3. Debrief the guidance presentation....talk about importance of dates, etc...
