We did not have class due to the science testing...we will continue with our sentence combining stuff next time

We took a test on the reading 26-35 and we then went over the test...we began a character list/web/matrix/chart/whatever you want to call it! haha! I gave two study guides that you should take a look at and make sure you understand....we took a lot of notes and I tried to clear up a lot of confusion today...if you missed class, please be sure to see someone to copy their notes
Don't forget that your "Renaissance Man" compositions are due next Wednesday...

Today we worked on reviewing our vocabulary words for the test Friday....you were asked to pick 10 words and GoogleImage search them to see what types of images come up....then, you were asked to pick the image that best represents that word, and write about it in a couple of sentences...
We continued working on our sentence variety stuff by doing a worksheet dealing with semicolons....sentence variety and sentence combining is important because for our next paper, sentence combining will be part of the rubric...

Today we got back to the novel THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO and we went over chapters 23, 24, and 25...I distributed a 'study guide' to help with the comprehension of these confusing chapters...if you were not here, DEFINITELY take notes from someone who was here
The next writing composition was assigned--it is due next WEDNESDAY
The reading assignment is to read chapters 26 through 35....but you may skip chapter 34

Today we took a test that combined a) TheCountOfMonteCristo knowledge with b) vocab knowledge...they were combined into the same test...it was open note!
The assignment for next class after vacation is to read chapters 23, 24, and 25.....

Then the class studied some current examples of songwriting....

Today we took a quiz on chapters 8-11 of MONTE CRISTO....then we went over the answers to this quiz (as well as the answers to any other questions you may have). ..the reading for next time is chapters 12 through 18...a study guide for 12-16 was given....we began the reading assignment together, doing most, if not all, of 12 as a class...

The assignment for today was to finish the book ETHAN FROME..we didnt take a quiz, but we went over the ending of the book...we discussed, also, the BenFranklin line "Some people die when they are 25 but are not buried until they are 85" and what the 'humorous' meaning is in this....we then discussed the difference between LIVING and SURVIVING....we then tied this back to the way the novel ended...The composition I would like you to write (due next Wed) for the ending of the book is this:
Consider the quote from Ben Franklin. What is the difference between LIVING and merely SURVIVING? In your opinion, which one is more favorable and why? You may, of course, reference any part of the book in your answer, but I am mostly looking for your own voice and intelligent opinion
Also, today, we took down a list of new vocab words...this quiz will be next Friday.

Today we finished any other speeches that we didnt get to on Friday...then we took down some notes about how to appear more confident in your speaking
-voice inflection
-eye contact
-subtle tapping/touching
-pacing among the audience/in front of the group
-dramatic pausing
For Friday, I would like you to compose a speech that is about a half-page long AND uses at least one of these 'signs of confidence' PLease have the first line of your speech be one of the following:
1. I think everyone should be able to....
2. One that that really annoys me is.....
